Fellow Barbara J. Gislason has completed her two years as Founding Chair of the ABA-TIPS Animal Law Committee. She is the ABA-TIPS Advisor to NCCUSL’s Uniform Emergency Volunteer Health Practitioners Act (UEVHPA). She now serves as an Advisor to the U.S. Department of Homeland Security regarding the National Response Plan concerning animals. She was also recently referred to as the “top animal advocate attorney in the country” on live TV by Dr. Phil. Gislason gave a speech titled "Conquering Legal Quicksand" at the American Veterinary Medical Law Association in Washington, D.C., and gave a speech titled "The Animal Enterprise Terrorism Act: Fashioning A Poison Pill For A Social Movement" as part of the Freedom of Speech Seminar, Part II, at the 2007 ABA Annual Meeting. Gislason is featured in the cover story, "A Malpractice Doctrine," of the August 2007 issue of DVM Newsmagazine, the premier publication for veterinarians in the United States.
